I have always been an artist in that from the time I could hold a crayon and cut with a scissors, I started creating things. My educational background took me from studying Communications and working in TV to living in Ireland and obtaining a Masters degree in Folklore. After many job experiences I decided to go back to school to train in the centuries-old craft of Bookbinding. I attended the North Bennet Street School in Boston - a school devoted to the training of students in fine craftsmanship

With the skills I learned in bookbinding I started to combine my love of drawing and design with the book form. I enjoy using the canvas of the book cover and the material of leather to execute my designs. I also love the three dimensional nature of the book structure and its possibilities for conveying a story or emotion on multiple levels.

The tactile nature of this art form invites the viewer to participate in the story being told and to connect with the piece. Through this interaction, I feel the viewer is better able to understand what I am trying to say with the piece. The sense of touch also fosters appreciation of the work that goes into creating each book from binding to design.
